New Year’s resolutions…

Everyone is talking about them. Diet. Exercise. Smoking. Alcohol. Getting cleansed. Staying cleansed. If only we could figure out how to bottle all those good intentions and keep them next to too much work and too little time. 

Where is ‘play’ on the list? That is what I love most about being with my grandchildren. They remind me that jumping rope and playing catch and swinging and wrestling shouldn’t be such work. They should be fun. And reading the comics in the daily paper…that’s fun, too. When was the last time your doctor asked you, “Are you having enough fun?”

  1. This is soooo true!! Personally, when I forget to play~with children or my pets~I am more irritable. It always amazes me how you can come home from work dog-tired and the LAST thing you want to do is play, but when I do, the stress seems to melt away and the rest of the evening is soooo much more pleasant!

  2. I love this! I do not have children (or grandchildren) but I do have dogs and they greet me at the door each night with a toy at their feet and happy wagging tails! It is an instantaneous reminder that I need to take some time to play and have fun and all will be better in my world…and most often they are right.

    Increasing the amount of fiber in your diet SLOWLY is definitely the key to a decrease in the side effects of the fiber. You could compare it to an excercise regimen where you would begin slowly and increase every week to the optimum work out plan for your age and specific health needs. You sure wouldn’t wake up one morning after having done no running and go run ten miles without suffering some MAJOR side effects! Dr. Parrott is right….start low and go slow to increase your daily fiber intake to the recommended level!

  4. Oh that is so true! We really don’t “play” enough. The health benefits from relaxation have been documented for years, but the stigma of laziness attached to taking time out of the work schedule to “have fun” is ridiculous. We are constantly bombarded with the need to achieve and produce, that we hardly stop to really live the lives that we are so desperately trying to “improve”! Quite a dilema.
